Human BTLA (B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator)
B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA), also known as CD**2, is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of *5kD, which is a member of the CD*8 family of T cell costimulatory molecules. BTLA contains an extracellular region of **7aa, a transmembrane region of *1aa, and a cytoplasmic region of **1aa. Unlike other members of the CD*8 family, the Ig domain of the extracellular region of BTLA is type I rather than type V, and it does not form homodimers. In addition, BTLA and TNF superfamily members HVEM, rather than B7 family ligands, interact. The interaction of BTLA and HVEM transmits inhibitory signals to down-regulate the immune response of lymphocytes.
